Saturday 28 June, Team Soffio Fast Rib will try to beat the Long Distance Offshore World Record with the “Napoli-Capri in a breath” (Soffio in Italian) challenge. Cristiano Segnini and Giovanni Di Meglio of HPR racing team will try to establish a new record with their Soffio 31 carbon, a luxury 9.40-meter inflatable boat (RIB) with a Suzuki engine. The attempt will begin at 6:00 a.m. before ferries and hydrofoils begin their daily rounds; the team will have to cover the 15.40 nautical miles that separate the Circolo Canottieri from Capri’s Punta Carena in the fastest possible time and according to the rules of FIM (Italian Motonautic Federation) and UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) for “pleasure navigation.”
The event was spurred by the informal races that Neapolitan pleasure boaters attempt on summer weekends. The hope is to be able to make this competition a yearly event with international appeal with the aim of giving a new lease of life to the nautical sector and shipyards.
Team Soffio hopes to clock the distance at 15 minutes max in the allowed “one shot” attempt. To do this, the boat must exceed 65 mph on average, reaching a top speed close to 80 mph.
A race against themselves, against the sea, against the clock
says Antonio Schiano Di Cola, President of the Regional Committee FIM / Campania.
Soffio Fast Rib is already used to intense competitions. In fact, it has already won two Greek championship races as well as two events in the Italian championship; thanks to these victories, the team has conquered last year’s European Cup.
Two Soffio ribs have also been recently used as rescue boats by Bergamo Scuba Angels, during the 3rd round of the XCat World Series Powerboat Championship. This is due to the excellent craftsmanship; the boats are produced with advanced technology, and they are built with the highest quality material.
For all moto nautical enthusiasts, again, the appointment is Saturday, June 28 at 6 in the morning. The boat will be starting from the Rowing Club (Circolo Canottieri) by Castel dell’Ovo in Naples and arriving to Punta Carena in Capri.
