Some of the best world-class runners are set to hit the streets of Dubai on Friday, January 23 to participate in the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon, which has been awarded Gold Label status from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The event is sure to attract many thousands of marathoners that day.
Many of the athletes are in training for the preparation of the 2016 Summer Olympics at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The marathon will start at 7.00am. The route begins on the Umm Suqeim Road at the Madinat Jumeirah and has runners head onto the Jumeirah Beach Road running past the Burj Al Arab. Eventually, they will go past the Madinat Jumeirah along Al Sufouh Road running past the entrance to Palm Island; afterward marathoners will proceed to Dubai Media City and then work their way back to the finish. In addition to seasoned athlete, many amateurs will also participate to the event. Anyone 18 yrs. and over that want to enter can. The entry fee is 120 USD.
Alternatively, less fit marathon runners can sign up for the shorter distance races: either the 10km Road Race, open to 15 yrs. and over – Start Time – 7:15 am at 75 USD, or the 4 km Fun Run, which is open to all – Start Time – 11:00 am at 30 USD. These options are ideals for less fit runners who would also like to participate.
Runners can take part in the marathon or other scheduled runs as either an individual athlete or group (Corporate Challenge or Team Challenge). Prizes will be awarded to top finishers of the marathon and 10 km races, for both individuals and teams. Yet all participants will receive an Adidas Climacool official race t/shirt, a finisher’s medal and a downloadable participant’s certificate.
Those planning to participate in 2015 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon can register online at dubaimarathon.org. The site provides all of the info needed to take part in the action. Everyone is advised to collect his or her own run number in person and provide proof of identity. The run number collection times are as follows:
Tuesday 20th – 10.00am to 7.00pm
Wednesday 21st – 10:00am to 7:00pm
Thursday 22nd – 10:00am to 5:00pm
A Marathon Village throughout the day will provide recreation, music and other amusement to entertain the participants and spectators. The event will not only bring fun and excitement for all families throughout Dubai but will also be a chance to see professional international competitors in action. With a US$100,000 World Record Bonus on the line for both the Marathon Men’s/Women’s classes, there are sure to be some fast finishers.
