In its towering scope and ambition, Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol resembles Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, from which the IMF team’s leader (Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt) famously abseiled during filming.
The film begins with an assassination scene in Budapest, before cutting to Ethan Hunt (Cruise) being broken out of a maximum-security Russian prison.
Things must be bad out here, to get me out of there
One of the crucial scene (the exchange between Moreau and Hendricks’s right-hand man, Marius Wistrom) of the movie takes place at the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world’s tallest building. Probably this is one of the reason, this film is so famous and appreciated in Dubai and the UAE.
Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol, in fact, is the second top-film all-time in the UAE, after Avatar.
In July 2011, a trailer for Ghost Protocol was released illustrating new shots from the film, one of which being Tom Cruise scaling the Burj Khalifa building. Prior to its release, the studio presented IMAX footage of the film to invitation-only crowd of opinion makers and journalists: one of the included scenes was sandstorm in Dubai.
