Montenegrin Striker Mirko Vucinic joined Al Jazira (for an undisclosed fee) on 4 July 2014. This contract marks for him a fresh start with a new club; he will be playing in the UAE Arabian Gulf Football League season, coming September.
The Al-Jazira Sports & Culture Club, or Al-Jazira for short, targeted Mirko Vucinic, the Montenegro international striker from Juventus F. C., a professional Italian association football club based in Turin, to play forward in UAE Pro League. Even though Vucinic was under contract until June 2015 by Juventus, the Italian team accepted a bid for the player. There are rumors that a €6 million fee has been agreed for the deal (a three-year contract).
Vucinic transferred to the UAE Arabian Gulf Football League, a group that consists of fourteen clubs, to play for Al-Jazira during the 2014–15 season. The player was glad to accept the transfer after a deal with both Tottenham and Arsenal, both Premier League teams, fell through and left Vucinic in Turin for the remaining part of the Italian Serie A 2013/2014 season.
Vucinic has won back-to-back Serie A titles in Turin. Although, he remained on the bench for most of the season games during the last years for Juventus, his performance on the field and his unique scoring abilities made him one of the most talked about strikers over the summer.
As seen in the three seasons under Conte at Juventus, Vucinic can play any role up in attack; his footballing intelligence and the ability to score make him a highly favored footballer to the Al-Jazira team. Fans at Al Jazira Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium are sure to be pleased with his game play, but only time will tell if he was the right choice for the team.
Signing Vucinic, who is valued at €21.5 million according to Transfermarkt, may be a gamble at 31 years of age, but this versatile player that can score spectacular strikes with his preferred right foot, will definitely give a contribution to the Al-Jazira team that should not be underestimated. What is clear, however, is that Vucinic’ s time with the Italian football clubs Lecce (2000), A.S. Roma (2006) and Juventus F.C. (2011) vouches for his quality. His talent should pay off for the primary football club from Abu Dhabi.
