His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the Union House

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the Union HouseVisited today The Union House with a group of children, where the first UAE flag was raised. Such precious moments in the heart of every citizen. We planted a tree..we called it the “Union Tree”..and I asked them to take care of it, & to take care of the Union. I hope we all use the National Day to plant a “Union Tree”..taking care of it and maintaining it just like our union.. I also hope you share with me, on twitter, photos of the “Union Trees” you planted with your families and friends in your homes or workplaces..We will share these images with each other online..& show the world, how much we love UAE & our union.

At the base of the flagpole, upon which the world’s largest UAE flag was raised on National Day in 2001 to mark the 30th anniversary of the union of the emirates, stands Union House.
It all began here; this is the birthplace of the UAE. In the early afternoon of Thursday, December 2 1971, the rulers of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al Qaiwain and Fujairah met inside this house, known then as the guest palace. There, they signed the declaration that brought into effect a temporary constitution and established the independent state of the United Arab Emirates. The meeting was attended by 21 people, including Sir Geoffrey Arthur, who signed the declaration on behalf of the UK.

Ras Al Khaimah joined the UAE one year later.
