Emirates Airline has significantly expanded its sponsorship footprint worldwide and in the U.S. especially through soccer. The New York Cosmos, for examples, have been sponsored by fly emirates for the past three years until the end of the 2016 season. “This is an important alliance for us, to be associated with the Cosmos…,” said Nabil Sultan, divisional SVP-revenue optimization and distribution for Emirates Air. And in fact, the Fly Emirates logo that appeared on the team’s shirt from the 2013 season onwards will be once more shown in the 2017 season.
The New York Cosmos and Emirates have extended their sponsorship agreement in April. This means Emirates will continue as the club’s Founding Partner and jersey-front sponsor. So, the advertiser will be on the front of the shirt once more and will remain that way for at least the next three seasons, as mentioned Emirates’ Media centre. As part of the agreement, Emirates’ world renowned ‘Fly Emirates’ logo will be emblazoned on the front of the Cosmos playing and training kits in the off-season, as well as during the on-season.
New York Cosmos Club Chairman Seamus O’Brien said, “There’s no bigger corporate supporter of sports, and soccer in particular, than Emirates. We’re proud and honored that the Cosmos are part of their plans for America and New York in particular.”
This is a big deal for the future of the New York Cosmos; the sponsor status opens the door to a whole new market – the booming countries of the Middle East.
The Dubai-based international aviation company Emirates Airline, the largest airline in the Middle East, has been looking into the wide span of possibilities for sponsorship of sports and sporting events and has chosen the New York Cosmos, an American professional soccer (football) club who plays in the North American Soccer League (NASL), the second division of North American soccer, since 2013. The Club is the winner of the NASL Trophy, known as the Soccer Bowl Trophy, for 2013, 2015, 2016) and is also recent winner (2015 & 2016) of the Supporters Cup (an annual award given to the NASL team with the best regular season, as determined by the points system on aggregate between the Spring and Fall championship seasons)..
Furthermore, “Emirates will also have the rights to be the presenting sponsor of the next three editions of the Cosmos Copa, the largest amateur soccer tournament in the U.S.,” tells the New York Cosmos news, updates, and commentary website at http://www.twiceacosmo.com/.
Emirates that is the largest investor in sports among the world’s airlines has made shirt sponsorships deals with some of the hottest football clubs. Apart from the Cosmos, Emirates supports some of the world’s top soccer teams, including AC Milan, Hamburger SV, Arsenal FC, Olympiacos FC, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. All of these football clubs are sponsored by Fly Emirates.
Who else in America will Fly Emirates want to invest in and be sponsor in promoting brand engagement? Will any other teams join the Cosmos, an iconic global soccer club that has been the most successful team in the past years in the U.S.?
