Encouraging and Spreading Volleyball Passion in UAE

Encouraging and Spreading Volleyball Passion in UAEAn article recently published in La Gazzetta dello Sport, an Italian newspaper dedicated to the coverage of various sports, shared an interesting story of passion and determination: the creation of an Italian indoor women volleyball team in the UAE.

According to reporter Elena Sandre, what started from a message in Facebook between Emma Limone and Stefano Giuliani (who works presently for Accenture Manager as part of Management Consulting in UAE, but who has relevant sports experience in the Italian Volleyball A2 Series), flourished into the idea to build a volleyball team in the Emirates.

Emma and Stefano’s objective is to create a team of indoor volleyball enthusiasts in Dubai where Emma and Stefano decided to move in 2014. Stefano Giuliani, former volleyball player, plans to fulfill the role of coach And work along with other young people of different origins.

The idea to build a women’s team indoor in Dubai seemed complicated because of lack of players, need for facilities and for money to start the project; nevertheless, it proved to be not an impossible feat for Emma and Stefano. Via Facebook, they reached out to the Italian community and generated enough interest to actually make the dream come true.

They also managed to find sponsors to help finance the endeavor.  Dubai Blog will be media partner of the project and will help spread the word out to the online community within the region. The dream is to generate more interest in volleyball in the UAE and, at the same time, provide another opportunity for aggregation and integration for many expats.

Emma Limone, with determination, along with Stefano Giuliani has given the team a classical name, “Esperia”. The name “Esperia volleyball” refers to the name the Greeks gave to Italy, “the land where the sun sets,” and to the fact that the majority of players are Italian girls living and working away from their homeland Italy. Expats from other nationalities, however, are joining the team and are making this project even more meaningful.

For now the team will be entered in the Open category, but Emma and Stefano are already taking their next steps and are thinking of the creation of a volleyball school for children. They dream of the idea to replicate the importance that the sport has in Italy today also in the UAE, where still many kids don’t take part in the sport. The initiative will be aimed at helping UAE develop a true passion in the volleyball game.
