Dubai MEFCC 2016. The popular festival is coming soon

The Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC), the region’s largest pop cultural festival, returns for its fifth year and promises an even bigger show than the highly successful 2015 event. So, get ready for MEFCC 2016!

MEFCC is an event that showcases Film, TV, Sci-Fi, Animation, Manga, Comics, Collectibles and more. This festival, like it does each year since 2012, brings together celebrities, artists, musicians, and exhibitors from across the globe.

No other large-scale consumer event for fans offers so much in comics, film, and the gaming industry! Numerous stars and superheroes will be present and visitors will be able to dress up and join in the fun. Cosplay and Costuming are part of the show with fans dressed up as their favorite comic book protagonist or film character. To be one of the Cosplayers and take part in the contests, one must download the entry form and submit a picture of the character to cosplay along with a music choice to competitions@mefcc.com.

Confirmed participants: Stan Lee (the well-known American comic book writer, editor, publisher), as well as the veteran comic book artist Whilce Portacio and character designer Eddie Nunez; Max Landis (a talented screenwriter, director, producer, and actor); role playing actors Veronica Taylor and Christopher Lloyd; plus, Jeff Gomez, CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment; Randy Orton the WWE; Superstar Madeleine ‘Zhiana’ Rose (an Australian cosplay model & actress), just to name a few of the MEFCC Celebrity Guests, International Artists and Cosplayers. Regional Guests include Ahmed Al Nasheet (gamer) and Fakhra Al-Mansouri (a U.A.E game designer).

With so many things to do and see at this year’s MEFCC, the fans of cult entertainment & popular culture will not want miss the experience or the chance to meet the various celebrities and artists who will be there, as well as the opportunity to watch exclusive previews, purchase limited edition merchandise or take part in exciting competitions.

Amidst all the action and excitement at the con, there will also be workshops:

  • Anime Characters (join Rami Mahmoud who will break down the basics to show you how you can build your own Anime character)
  • Vampires and Zombies (with Mel Guidera that explores the characters, themes and sheer such monsters)
  • Game Development (speaker – Fakhra Al-Mansouri tells what it means to be a game designer)
  • Disney Artist (with James C Mulligan who will show you the basics of drawing a Disney character)
  • Voice Acting (join Veronica Taylor to learn key tips to creating characters)
  • SFX Makeup (with Italian movie makeup artist Mary Samele)
  • Arabic calligraphy (join Master Calligrapher Jaafar Hamza for a unique session)
  • Filmmaking (speaker – UAE based filmmaker Faisal Hashmi)
  • Comic Book Digital Drawing (with comic book artist Whilce Portacio)
  • Digital Coloring for Comic Books (join Beth Sotelo who shows special effects in comic book coloring)
  • Comic Art (speaker – Dubai-based professional comic book illustrator Saeed Arjumand)
  • Background & Environment Design for Comic Books (with Joel Gomez)
  • Comics as Journalism (speaker – Comics Educator Michael Ferrara)
  • Learning and Teaching with Comics (with English teacher Bob Hoffman)
  • The Art of Magic (join the 7th Delusion to experience magic and illusion)

Each of the workshops is free to attend for all con visitors who can learn directly from industry professionals.

To recap: This annually-held convention in Dubai, United Arab Emirates that is comprised of all things comics, Sci-fi, Marvel, DC, games, anime, manga and more is set to bring several thousands of visitors from all over the region to one place. Exhibitors will be displaying various works from vintage comics, film, games and collectible art pieces, and more across the show floor.
