A half marathon is a road running event of 21.0975 kilometres, just half the distance of a marathon and also known as a 21K, 21.1K or 13.1 miles. Also in Dubai and UAE participation in half marathons has grown steadily, mainly because it is a challenging distance, but does not require the same level of training that a marathon requires.
The Saucony Dubai Half Marathon 2013 is taking place on Friday, 18.10.2013 at the Emirates Golf Club and all around Emirates Hills.
Registration Closes on 11.10.2013 11:59 pm
Nico de Corato, owner and founder of DubaiBlog is attending the event with the bib number 506.
Even not being a full marathon, we remind you the importance of a good warmup; if you skip or skimp on your prerun routine, you risk poor performance and injury. A proper warmup increases heart rate, breathing rate, and blood flow to the muscles, allowing your body to work more efficiently, and reducing injury risk by loosening you up. With all the things you need to accomplish before your race starts—pick up your number, store your stuff, chat with friends—it’s easy to shortchange your warmup. But you need time before your race to get your body ready for race pace. That’s why we recommend you arriving at least one hour before the start. Especially if you don’t know exactly the place, and especially in Dubai, when it’s very easy to get lost.
Generally, the distance of your event determines the length of your warmup. Shorter races require longer warmups cause you need to hit a faster pace right from the start. Marathoners and half-marathoners can use the first kilometers to ease into goal pace. Here’s how to match the warmup to the effort.
