Dubai and Abu Dhabi once again have demonstrated their pride in their country by working on two separate Guinness World record attempts for the 43rd UAE National Day celebrated on Tuesday, December 2: 43 flags made of “flowering plants” and the largest “bus mosaic.”
Such an undertaking is a demonstration of national pride and is an example of great patronage by the Horticulture Department of Dubai Municipality and the Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi.
Mohammad Abdul Rahman Al Awadi, head of the agriculture section at the municipality, explained that for the new record-breaking UAE flag, they will be planting over 45,000 seedlings and cover an area of 2,026 square meters. This is not the first time that an occasion is celebrated in this way; in fact many international events were honored with logos designed with flowers.
For the other record attempt, Saeed Al Hameli, general manager of the bus division at the DoT, said it had gathered 156 of its buses, divided them into the four colors of the UAE flag (with 39 buses representing each color) and aligned in the Shahama parking yard. The completed flag was 36.6 meters long and 145.3 meters wide. He adds the project was done not only to set a new record, but also to increase awareness of the role and importance of public transport.
In order to ensure both record attempts are valid (i.e., to see if the UAE flag was recognizable), aerial images were taken.
Each year, the United Arab Emirates celebrates the federal unification of the seven emirates and holds various festivities. A series of events and festivities are normally planned, but this year, pride was shown with two Guinness World Records accomplishments that involved the UAE national flag. During this time of National Day celebrations, people are sure to be in awe for the 43 UAE flags made using flowers and plant and will marvel at the UAE flag made out of buses.
